Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 6.703/96.17, Now #13; No Prior Run

1:10 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 3,332 feet, track temperature 123 degrees.

Wilkerson gets about 200 feet out, loses traction, pedals once and gives up on the run.


Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.274/296.11, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 4.906/181.59, Now #14; No Prior Run

Lesenko gets out of the groove late in the run, drifts toward the wall and backs off the throttle. Gray makes a decent pass and gets in the show for now.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.380/227.46, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.121/302.35, Was #3
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 13.547/47.10, Now #16; No Prior Run

Bode hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. Tasca drifts to the right, gets close to the center line and backs off the throttle.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.593/215.07, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.242/293.22, Now #13; No Prior Run

Neff gets about 400 feet out, loses traction and starts moving around. He pedals, the rear of the car starts moving around, then he backs off the throttle a little early. Force makes a clean run and gets in the field in the 13th spot.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 6.363/108.08, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 7.495/79.44, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.187/295.72, Was #12

Alexander and Head come off the line, get about 200 feet out, then both go up in smoke. Head is already in the field, Alexander will have one more shot. Todd Lesenko is on the bump spot at 4.906.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.434/80.68, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.183/301.40, Was #11
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.149/298.14, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.135/304.19, Was #4

Cruz goes right down the groove with an impressive pass, the quickest of the session so far. Arend gets about 200 feet out and goes up in smoke.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.166/302.28, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.173/301.13, Was #10
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.172/305.42, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.156/305.98, Was #9

DeJoria goes right down the groove and improves a little from yesterday, but not enough to move up in the field. Force makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.239/291.70, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.152/305.77, Was #8
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.236/297.68, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.144/304.39, Was #7

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove, but neither improve.

Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.211/300.06, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.139/306.05, Was #6
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.155/301.74, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.114/309.27, Was #2

Another good side-by-side but neither improve.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.148/293.92, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.138/303.23, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.546/97.94, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.104/308.35, Was #1

Wilkerson goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round but he doesn't improve and stays in the fifth spot. Hight gets about 300 feet out and goes up in smoke.
