BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Competitors Competitors For NHRA racers, the ability to drive is necessary to performing well on the track. How well they drive a golf ball, however, is up for debate. During the Ninth Annual Bristol Dragway Celebrity Golf Benefit presented by Alpha Natural Resources on June 14, racers will trade their steering wheels for golf clubs to support Speedway Children's Charities.

Held at the Country Club of Bristol, the event gives each team of four the chance to partner with an NHRA celebrity for an afternoon on the links. Alpha Natural Resources returns to support the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities and this popular event among drivers and participants.

"Speedway Children's Charities continues to have a very positive impact on Bristol and surrounding communities," said Rick Nida, Manager of External Communications. "Alpha is pleased to partner with them again in raising funds to help children in need lead more productive lives."

The tournament, in which a number of NHRA racers compete for the coveted Darrell Russell Cup, benefits the Bristol Chapter of SCC and takes place the day before the first round of qualifying for the Ford Thunder Valley Nationals. The race, one of the NHRA's top events, takes place June 15-17.

Among the drivers currently set to compete are 2011 Golf champion Mike Neff, Shawn Langdon, Jeg Coughlin, Allen Johnson, Greg Anderson and Jason Line.

Last year's tournament featured several NHRA celebrities and raised more than $28,000 for various charities throughout Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

The tournament begins with registration at 11 a.m. Lunch is scheduled for noon. The shotgun start is slated for 1 p.m.

A limited number of slots remain available. Hole sponsorship is $1,500, which includes a four-person team and signage on the sponsored hole. Teams also may be purchased for $1,200 without a hole sponsorship. All team members will receive a goody bag, golfer's gift and lunch.
