MARTIN, Mich. --
It was the first trip to the Michigan track for the series, featured in the track's Summer Showdown weekend. One of the original drivers in the PMRA, Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, New York, won his first event in the Pro Modified series. Driving the Grainy Brothers Racing 1967 Camaro, Grainy bested Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario in the final. Grainy, who qualified fourth, took out number one qualifier Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario in the semi before meeting up with Latino. After a tough go getting qualified, Jeff Moser's luck turned around as he won the Quick 32 Sportsman Series final with his Top Dragster over the Top Sportsman entry of Rob Gray in the Wilson and Gray Chevy Cavalier. Moser, of Waterloo, Ontario, qualified tenth in the field, and eliminated Chuck Stirdivant of Dorr, Michigan in the Top Dragster final before taking on Gray, of Ingersoll, Ontario, in the event final. Gray, who qualified ninth, eliminated two-time Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion and number one Top Sportsman qualifier Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario.
John Orfanidis had a great weekend riding his Suzuki to his first PBSS victory. The Toronto, Ontario racer qualified his Pro Bike entry number one in the field, and worked his way through the field to meet up with and defeat Pro Sled rider Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario in the final with his Arctic Cat. After two events, Jeff Roth of New Dundee, Ontario leads the PMRA points race with 590 points, followed by Boland with 582, and Grainy with 576. Latino is in fourth at present, and Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario is fifth.
In the PBSS, Orfanidis is ahead with 460 points, Pro Sled rider Chris Bondi of Aurora is in second with 457 points, and the Ingersoll, Ontario Pro Bike team Danny Staples and Kevin McKay is tied with Pro Bike rider Bob McDonald of Woodstock, Ontario with 418 points. The next event for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS is at the Canadian Nitro Nationals June 22-24 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.
