Top Alcohol Funny Car Round 1 Eliminations

MOHNTON, Pa. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals:

4:52 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 29.45 inches, adjusted altitude 3,037 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Foster was competing as an alternate for John Headley. Manzo got out of the gate first and was ahead all the way down the quarter mile to take the win. It was good that Manzo was out front because Foster's car drifted right, crossed the center line and took out the foam blocks at mid track.

Fiorini was first off the starting line and out in front at 330 feet, then Noakes powered by to take the win. Paul Noakes' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.040), 330 ft(-0.021), 660ft(0.019), 1,000ft(0.066). MOV: 0.1606 seconds (approximately 51 feet).

Beers left early, slowed immediately and pulled to the side of the track.

Both cars went straight down the groove but this race was Anderika's from start to finish.

Bogolo had a problem early on and clicked it off early. Ferro will race Anderika in round two tomorrow.

Cox went red and got off the throttle right away. Veney will race Bohl in round two.

Gill had a good light in his first national event and led to 330 feet, but then Tigges passed by to take the win. Fred Tigges' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.060), 330 ft(-0.034), 660ft(0.021), 1,000ft(0.051). MOV: 0.0661 seconds (approximately 24 feet). Tigges will race Noakes in round two.

Lourie and Pomponio left the starting line close together but Pomponio was just a bit quicker on the track to take the win. As a reward, he gets to race Frank Manzo in the next round.
