Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Final Session

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 45th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 13.550/74.33, Now #20; Best prior run: 19.968/41.34, Was #21

Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.98 inches, adjusted altitude 1,304 feet.

Veale was up in in smoke as soon and pedaled and was back up in smoke. He will not get in the show.


Left Lane: Mia Tedesco Runs 10.972/87.98, Now #19; Best prior run: 15.479/73.19, Was #21
Right Lane: Cherissa Griffis-Smallwood Runs 5.826/252.80, Now #17; Best prior run: 12.559/39.52, Was #19

Tedesco was up in smoke as soon as she hit the throttle and pedaled it and lifted the front end before she clicked it off. She will not get in the show. Griffis-Smallwood makes a clean, but won't get in the show.

Left Lane: Mike Strasburg Runs 5.247/275.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.642/270.81, Was #14
Right Lane: Chase Copeland Runs 5.370/269.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 11.490/84.80, Was #20

Strasburg launched hard and keep it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Strasburg with a big top end speed, the fastest of the event and his career best, this was also his career best E.T.. Mike Strasburg's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.469/220.87 mph, 1,000ft-4.430. Copeland keep it hitting on all eight all the way down the track and gets into the top half of the show. Chase Copeland's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.480, 660ft-3.594/224.25 mph, 1,000ft-4.544.

Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.565/266.85, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.620/270.27, Was #15
Right Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.915/241.67, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.075/190.89, Was #19

Fricke makes her best pass of the weekend and moves up the ladder two spots. Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.590, 660ft-3.773/216.55 mph, 1,000ft-4.735. Dietrich makes a move in the right direction, but not enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Don Nolan Runs 5.413/261.72, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.606/215.03, Was #15
Right Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 5.447/260.97, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.773/194.16, Was #17

Nolan with a good pass and makes a big move in the right direction. Don Nolan's incremental times: 60ft-0.941 sec., 330ft-2.391, 660ft-3.554/211.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.557. Cummings was straight down the groove to get in the show. Matthew Cummings' incremental times: 60ft-0.964 sec., 330ft-2.423, 660ft-3.588/211.56 mph, 1,000ft-4.588.

Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.777/264.96, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.549/255.24, Was #14
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 9.085/94.40, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.656/249.21, Was #17

Manners with a clean pass, but will not improve. Michael Manners' incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.722, 660ft-3.950/210.21 mph, 1,000ft-4.937. Mercier was up in smoke right off the starting line and pedaled it and was back up in smoke before he lifted.

Left Lane: Dan Page Runs 9.259/92.98, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.513/262.13, Was #13
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.689/260.26, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.603/259.16, Was #16

Page chattered the tires and lifted the front end right on the launched and clicked it off. Meyer was dropping cylinders right at the hit and never got it to pick up. He will not improve and will stay on the bump spot.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.450/255.15, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.411/259.86, Was #9
Right Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.352/268.71, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.446/263.62, Was #11

Dreher started hazing the tires around half track and then was mixing up cylinders on the top end. He will not improve and will get bumped back to the number 10 spot. Samsel launched hard and keep it hooked up to get into the top half of the show with a nice pass. Robin Samsel's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.448, 660ft-3.567/223.02 mph, 1,000ft-4.524.

Left Lane: Artie Allen Runs 5.561/247.43, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.341/246.89, Was #6
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.351/270.86, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.384/272.83, Was #9

Allen with his fastest pass of the weekend, but not his quickest and he will start form the number six spot. Artie Allen's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.501, 660ft-3.673/213.64 mph, 1,000ft-4.674. Demke drove through tire shake right off the starting line and made his quickest pass of the weekend to move into the top half of the show. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.915 sec., 330ft-2.398, 660ft-3.542/216.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.521.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.291/273.83, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.285/272.39, Was #4
Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.352/260.81, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.322/260.81, Was #5

Shields with another good looking pass, straight down the groove, but will not improve. Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.527/224.21 mph, 1,000ft-4.475. Finke like Shield with another good pass, but he won't improve and will start eliminations from the number five spot. John Finke's incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.421, 660ft-3.545/222.18 mph, 1,000ft-4.506.

Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 25.744/21.66, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.270/268.54, Was #3
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.274/276.69, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.204/270.00, Was #1

McPhillips was up in smoke right at the hit and clicked it off and coasted through the 1320. Reichert drove through tire shake and still runs the second quickest pass of the round. He will hold on to the No. 1 qualifying position for the 38th time in his career. Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.428, 660ft-3.534/226.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.468.
