Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #3

BRAINERD, Minn. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 33rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.158/224.25, Now #13; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 28.56 inches, adjusted altitude 4,121 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Karamesines was on a good looking pass until on the top end when he started to haze the tires and pitched the blower belt off. He still makes his quickest pass of the weekend. Chris Karamesines' incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.241, 660ft-3.185/261.27 mph.

Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.078/250.88, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 4.971/139.70, Now #15; No Prior Run

Novelli has a hole out right at the hit and never gets it to pick up, but he stays with it and makes his quickest pass of the weekend to go to the number 13 spot. Luigi Novelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.186/253.66 mph. Cullinan started mixing up cylinders early in the run and clicked it off. He still makes his quickest pass of the weekend. Tim Cullinan's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.245, 660ft-3.447/173.83 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 5.159/136.75, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.904/303.16, Now #11; No Prior Run

Millican had a hole out right at the hit and then he clicked it off just before half track. He will not get into the show. Torrence was straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to get into the show. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.174, 660ft-3.115/270.32 mph.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 6.326/95.99, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.304/99.74, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.906/318.99, Was #12

Pritchett is up in smoke early and she clicks it off...she will be down to one run to get in the show. McMillen is is up in smoke almost at the same time as Pritchett and he too clicks it off, but he was already in the show from yesterday.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 6.413/106.96, Now #19; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 6.646/96.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.845/319.07, Was #8

The word is that Todd didn't really double step it yesterday, there was a throttle cable linkage problem that caused the problem. Todd starts to lose traction right off the starting line and clicks it off. He will be down to qualifying round four to get in the show. Force also loses traction early and clicks it off, but she is already in the show.

Left Lane: Khalid alBalooshi Runs 3.860/311.77, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.914/306.19, Was #13
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.527/173.72, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.842/320.13, Was #7

alBalooshi was on a good looking pass until right in the lights when it started to drop cylinders and then banged the blower with a a quick fireball. He still makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up the ladder three spots. Khalid alBalooshi's incremental times: 60ft-0.832 sec., 330ft-2.155, 660ft-3.085/274.83 mph. Dixon was on a good pass until around half track when he started to haze the tires and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.714/164.59, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.883/286.98, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.853/149.05, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.835/318.84, Was #5

Lucas starts dropping cylinders and the starts to haze the tires and clicks it off. Vandergriff starts to haze the tires around half track and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.847/319.37, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.860/317.34, Was #9
Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 4.092/240.42, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.827/320.97, Was #3

Massey launched hard and keep it hooked up all the way down the track with his quickest pass of the weekend and the quickest pass of the round. He will stay in the number nine spot. Spencer Massey's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.175, 660ft-3.089/279.96 mph. Crampton started mixing up cylinders on the top end and then the engine let go. The word from the top end is there is oil in Crampton's lane and that will cost him five points.

Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.641/160.40, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.836/323.43, Was #6
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.915/300.13, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.815/321.27, Was #2

Schumacher starts to smoke the tires and clicks it off. Langdon makes a full pull the fourth quickest of the session. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.114/267.37 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.845/315.34, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.827/316.38, Was #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.522/176.56, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.812/322.96, Was #1

Brown launched hard and was straight down the groove with the quickest pass of the round. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.079/276.35 mph. Kalitta started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off.
