BRAINERD, Minn. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 33rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals:

  500 Dale Brand                            556 Lance Van Hauen

Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 28.54 inches, adjusted altitude 4,103 feet.

Brand is 1 - 0 against Van Hauen in prior events. Brand with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. Brand with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. Dale Brand's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.523, 660ft-3.740/204.57 mph, 1,000ft-4.780. Van Hauen with a lot of tire shake a lot and he clicks it off.

Payne is 3 - 2 against Westerfield in prior events. Payne with the starting line advantage, but he has a lot of tire shake and drives through it. Westerfield is able to chase him down just past half track and takes the win by 0.0191 seconds (approximately 7 feet). Westerfield will give up lane choice to Brand in the next round.

This is the first time Matter and Foster have faced each other in eliminations. Foster with the starting line advantage and then has problems and Matter is able to drive around him to take the win. Matter wins her first round of competitionat a National event and she will get a bye in the next round to the semifinal.

This is the first time Hool and McVey have faced each other in eliminations. McVey with the starting line advantage and the power to hold on for the hole shot win. McVey will give up lane choice to Whiteley in the next round.
