NORWALK, Ohio --

The International Hot Rod Association is pleased to welcome Race City Motorsports Park to the IHRA as the latest track to join the rapidly growing IHRA family.

With the addition of the Race City facility, the track list north of the border has now grown to over half a dozen racing locations, further cementing the IHRA's status as the sanctioning body of choice in the provinces of Canada. Race City Motorsports Park is the second track from the province of Alberta to sign with the IHRA, joining staple track Castrol Raceway just up the road in Edmonton.

"The executive members of the Calgary Drag Racing Association are quite excited for the opportunity to come back to the IHRA after a short absence," said Andy Hockin. "Some of the changes the IHRA has made to the Summit SuperSeries, the Nitro Jam tour and the new Division 6 have created a lot of discussion among the racers. The IHRA is moving in the right direction to support and create a fun atmosphere and bring new racers into the sport."

Race City Motorsports Park was built in the early 1980s with a 2.5 mile road course, a half-mile paved oval and of course the quarter-mile drag strip making it one of the best motorsports parks in its day. It remains today one of the busiest facilities in Canada.

"The racing community in Calgary has worked very hard to keep our facility open for the past few years and having a sanctioning agreement and a future with the new division will help keep interest alive at all levels of government and industry," Hockin said. "We hope to be racing here for years to come."

Race City Motorsports Park will immediately begin competition in the newly created Division 6.
