CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Third annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Pete Farber Runs 15.354/56.81, Now #15; No Prior Run Right Lane: Kenny Lang No Time, Now #18; No Prior Run 4:51 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 27 percent, barometer 29.51 inches, adjusted altitude 1,452 feet, track temperature 97 degrees. Lang didn't make a run in the first session today, Farber shut off after the burnout. Lang had problems starting the car and finally got it to fire as Farber was staging for his run, so they signaled him to
shut it off. Then Farber launched, spun the tires hard, and coasted through. Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.053/241.58, Now #5; Best prior run: 14.182/59.82, Was #14 Right Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 5.934/249.95, Now #3; No Prior Run In the first session, Pruett's car went silent at the end of her burnout and she did not make a run, while Knowles (and a lot of others) found more shake than traction. Both drivers got down the track this time around, Pruett with a strong run,
Knowles off the pace a bit on the top end. Left Lane: Robert Patrick Jr. Runs 10.304/87.09, Now #15; Best prior run: 13.400/81.99, Was #15 Right Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 6.267/220.84, Now #7; Best prior run: 20.103/25.58, Was #17 Patrick's new car once again proved to be a handfull and he had to lift. Matusek got down the track this time, needs to turn up the wick a bit. Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.934/242.36, Now #4; Best prior run: 9.693/90.29, Was #13 Right Lane: Chip King Runs 8.890/120.75, Now #13; Best prior run: 10.847/102.14, Was #16 King's car made a very crooked start, with quick moves to the left and then back to the right, and he lifted on the top end. Smith showed his talents, getting rid of the problems that bit him in the first session to make a nice-looking run this time out. Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 10.404/85.08, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.878/237.25, Was #12 Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.967/241.80, Now #5; Best prior run: 10.123/86.36, Was #15 Payne went left, the right, then lifted. Castellana made a nice, smooth, straight run. Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 13.762/64.91, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.676/165.66, Was #11 Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 7.647/130.14, Now #14; Best prior run: 9.133/99.58, Was #15 Both cars made hard moves, Coughlin's trying to cross the centerline at least twice before he lifted. Left Lane: Donald Walsh Runs 6.151/228.00, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.572/222.51, Was #10 Right Lane: Ike Maier Runs 6.022/233.84, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.788/229.24, Was #12 Walsh shook early, did a nice job of recovering. Maier had no apparent problems. Left Lane: Donald Martin Runs 9.497/119.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.027/224.88, Was #7 Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 7.789/124.03, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.160/240.77, Was #10 Janis' supercharger "hat" is unique, triangular, with three butterflies. Both cars shook and lifted. Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 5.874/247.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.887/248.61, Was #1 Right Lane: Brad Brand Runs 5.976/247.61, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.918/248.84, Was #2 This is the final pair of the session. Two solid runs, just like last time around, Rowe improving his hold on the top spot.
