Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #2

COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: James Surber Runs 7.275/179.78, Now #18; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.113/188.99, Now #14; Best prior run: 14.700/38.80, Was #20

6:02 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 29.24 inches, adjusted altitude 3,336 feet, track temperature 120 degrees.

Surber is able to make a pass on this attempt but doesn't get in the field. Phillips makes a full pass but is still on the outside.


Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 7.089/187.36, Now #13; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Joey Gladstone Runs 9.205/94.01, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.428/180.81, Was #21

The word is Ellis' bike had too much oil in it the first round and he wasn't able to make a pass. He makes a decent pass here but doesn't quite get in the top twelve. Gladstone has problems late in the run and backs off the throttle.

Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.264/181.35, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.143/187.60, Was #17
Right Lane: Wesley Wells Runs 7.109/185.54, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.401/146.77, Was #21

Harris slows from his earlier pass and doesn't make the field. Wells as able to keep the bike in the groove on this pass but still doesn't run well enough to get in the field.

Left Lane: Matt Smith No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.115/190.46, Was #17
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.188/183.54, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.290/182.65, Was #21

Smith has problems getting the engine to start and is unable to make a pass. DeSantis waits on Smith but finally stages and improves from his earlier attempt.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.104/187.50, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.110/187.21, Was #15
Right Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.155/185.66, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.157/187.39, Was #19

Berry improves from his earlier attempt but not enough to get him in the top twelve. Underdahl almost equals his first attempt and doesn't get in the field.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 7.046/188.17, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.084/188.49, Was #12
Right Lane: John Hall Runs 7.141/186.00, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.012/192.44, Was #10

Savoie improves but not enough to move up in the field. Hall slows from his earlier attempt and will stay in the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.067/188.86, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.040/191.54, Was #11
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 7.024/187.78, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.998/190.38, Was #8

A couple of decent passes but both slow from their earlier attempts.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 7.108/187.11, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.008/192.08, Was #9
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.998/190.30, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.996/191.02, Was #7

Stoffer makes another good run but doesn't improve. Pollacheck slows a tenth and will stay in the ninth spot.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.989/191.84, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.987/191.48, Was #5
Right Lane: Shawn Gann No Time, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.991/190.46, Was #6

Gann has problems and doesn't make a pass. Hines equals his earlier attempt and stays in the fifth spot.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.002/189.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.981/191.21, Was #4
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.894/193.82, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.926/193.57, Was #2

Arana makes an impressive pass and moves ahead of Krawiec to take the top spot. Ray slows a little but is safely in the field for now.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.950/192.85, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.955/191.81, Was #3
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.900/194.74, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.895/195.42, Was #2

Krawiec makes another good run but can't retake the pole. Arana Jr. goes right down the groove but doesn't improve.
